Introduction: Why This Question Matters More Than You Think
If you’ve been prescribed acne medication and you’re still trying to maintain your beauty routine, you’re not alone.
One of the most common questions we hear is:
“Can I get a lash lift while on Accutane?”
And the honest answer is: this is one of the most important times to slow down and reassess what your lashes and skin are going through—not just focus on the cosmetic result.
What Accutane Does to Your Body (Especially Your Lashes)
Accutane is a powerful medication that significantly changes how your skin and hair behave.
During treatment, most clients experience:
Extremely dry skin and eyes
Increased sensitivity around the eyelids
Brittle, fragile eyelashes
Slower healing response
Unpredictable reaction to chemical treatments
This is why lash lifting becomes risky during this time.
The Straight Answer: No, Lash Lifts Are Not Recommended on Accutane
A lash lift works by restructuring the natural lash using a controlled chemical process.
But while on Accutane:
Lashes are too fragile to hold a stable curl
Over-processing becomes much more likely
The eyelid skin can react aggressively
Results are inconsistent or short-lived
Even if a lift “works,” the condition of the lashes usually makes the result unstable.
Why Waiting After Accutane Is So Important
Most professionals recommend waiting:
At least 3–6 months after finishing Accutane
Sometimes up to 12 months for full recovery
This allows:
Natural lash strength to return
Skin barrier to normalize
Oil production to stabilize
Sensitivity to decrease
Your lashes need time to fully recover before chemical services.
What We See at The Wink Lab in Real Clients
At The Wink Lab, we consistently notice a clear difference:
Clients who wait → healthy lashes, even curl, long-lasting resultsClients who rush → uneven lift, sensitivity, or weak retention
The difference is not the product—it’s the condition of the lash at the time of service.
Safer Alternatives While You’re on Accutane
If you’re currently on Accutane, here are safer options we sometimes recommend:
1. Lash tint (only in low-sensitivity cases)
A gentle tint may be considered after evaluation.
2. Lash conditioning routines
Focus on hydration and lash strength instead of chemical lifting.
3. Makeup alternatives
Lightweight tubing mascaras are often better tolerated.
Important: Always Disclose Medication Before Your Appointment
At The Wink Lab, we always ask clients to disclose:
Medications (especially Accutane)
Skin conditions
Recent dermatology treatments
This helps protect your lash health and avoid irritation or damage.
