How to Remove Eyelash Extensions Safely?
The Expert-Approved Way to Remove Lash Extensions
We all love a good DIY—but when it comes to removing eyelash extensions, the safest and healthiest approach will always come from trained lash professionals. Extensions enhance your natural lashes with beautiful length and fullness, but proper removal is just as important as proper application.
Whether you're curious, in a pinch, or looking for expert-backed guidance, here’s everything you need to know—expert-approved and Wink Lab–approved.

Do Lash Extensions Damage Your Natural Lashes?
This is the question we hear every single day—and the truth is simple:
👉 When lash extensions are applied correctly and maintained properly, they do NOT damage your natural lashes.
Damage only happens when:
Incorrect or heavy lash weights are applied
Poor isolation causes lashes to stick together
Clients pick, pull, or attempt unsafe at-home removals
Choosing an experienced lash artist and following proper aftercare will keep your lashes healthy, strong, and beautiful.
How to Ensure Lash Extensions Stay On Longer
Retention depends on your skin type, lifestyle, and daily habits. Here’s what helps your lashes stay full and fabulous:
Wash your lashes daily (especially if you have oily skin or wear makeup)
Cleanse immediately after sweating, gym sessions, or swimming
Avoid oils and heavy eye creams
Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to prevent tugging
Book refills every 2–3 weeks, depending on your lash cycle
Great retention begins with great aftercare.
Will Vaseline Remove Lash Extensions?
Short answer: NO.
Vaseline does not break down professional lash adhesive. Using petroleum jelly can cause:
Natural lash shedding
Sticky buildup and clumping
Bacteria trapped along the lash line
Irritation or lash loss
Skip this trend entirely—your lashes will thank you.

How Professionals Remove Lash Extensions Safely?
At The Wink Lab, we use a professional-grade adhesive remover formulated to dissolve lash glue gently and effectively.
Our removal process includes:
Applying under-eye pads
Using a gel or cream remover that breaks down adhesive in minutes
Sliding extensions off gently without any pulling
Giving you a deep lash bath to eliminate all residue
Recommending a short lash break + a nourishing serum
This keeps your natural lashes healthy and ready for your next set.
How to Remove Lash Extensions at Home?
(Only If Absolutely Necessary)
At The Wink Lab, we always recommend professional removal first. It is the safest, cleanest, and most effective method.
However, if you only have a few extensions left and cannot come in, here is the only at-home method people sometimes use:
Coconut Oil Method
(Not Recommended by us— but used for some people when only a few lashes remain)
If you choose to do this, be extremely gentle:
Use coconut oil — never Vaseline.
Apply it only at night to avoid daytime blurriness.
With a clean spoolie, apply a very small amount of oil onto the extensions (not the waterline).
Let it sit overnight.
Repeat for 1–3 nights until the remaining extensions naturally slide off.
Do not pick, pull, or play with your lash extensions — doing so can cause your natural lashes to come out.
Important Reminder
We do not recommend this method as your first choice. Oil does not fully dissolve professional lash adhesive and can cause:
irritation
unwanted shedding
damage to your natural lashes
For the safest results, professional removal by a trained lash artist is always the best option.
